October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month…

September 28, 2010

I will not make light of the women, children, and skyrocketing number of men who are victims of domestic violence because I already have. Nor will I hit you with statistics because to be honest, I am feeling evil today and don’t feel like it. Even though I am currently being followed by a dark cloud, I will still do a public service and shine light on a serious, and underreported social ill. Praise or condemn my attempt if you must, but please pass on hope, support, and the links that I will continually add to the bottom of this post to victims because it is the right thing to do, and because Stone Cold said so.

“Be Real Black For Me” for me is a duet sung by Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway, and should not be what a fist or door says to another person’s eye.

If your relationship was a televised sporting event, ESPN should not be able to have a highlight segment entitled “Jacked Up“. A “C’mon Man” segment would be acceptable for comedic purposes.

#TeamWhipThatAss should be saved for S&M play, and not the tweets of CNN‘s Roland Martin. For S&M players not using safety words could leave you in a murky legal position.

“In Hong Kong, a betrayed wife is legally allowed to kill her adulterous husband, but may only do so with her bare hands.”-If this tidbit caused you to drift into a blood-drenched day dream, seek counseling.

“You told Harpo to beat me”, should be a part of a punchline about masturbation, and not the result of advice Celie gave Harpo to deal with Sophia.

Did I just gainsay my claim of not making light of domestic violence?

Domestic violence should not happen to anybody. Ever. Period. But it does – and when it does, there is help. Maybe you have lived with abuse, maybe it happened just once; maybe you work or live next to someone who is being abused right now.
