Chael Sonnen Reaps What He Sows

September 19, 2010

Oh how quickly the mighty fall. Anderson Silva consistently gets the last laugh. He was beaten to a pulp from the opening bell of his bout with Chael Sonnen, who pushed Anderson the closest he had been to defeat in years. Silva was able to pull out a victory with a miracle submission, but many fans left The Silva-Sonnen bout believing Anderson had lost his aura of invincibility. Well Chael has done a lot to give Anderson his aura back by failing his drug test at UFC 117.

According to California State Athletic Commission Executive Officer George Dodd, Chael Sonnen has been notified that he failed post-fight drug screening following his loss to Anderson Silva at UFC 117, which was held Aug. 7 at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, Calif.

… In a conversation the day before, Dodd declined to comment on the situation, other than answering that all fighters from UFC 117 had passed drugs-of-abuse scans, but that the commission was still waiting on performance-enhancing drug screens from the event.

Dodd did not state which banned substance was red-flagged, but with a clean drugs-of-abuse scan it is clear the positive test was for a performance-enhancing substance.

This little quote from Shonnen now becomes hilarious and filled with delicious #irony:

To hype his UFC middleweight title fight with Anderson Silva, Chael Sonnen has employed a simple strategy: Say as many outrageous things about Silva as he can think of.

But as Saturday night’s fight draws closer, Sonnen isn’t satisfied with just taking on Silva. He has now decided to verbally attack Lance Armstrong, suggesting in an interview that Armstrong’s cancer was caused by the use of performance-enhancing drugs, and that Armstrong’s support of cancer research has been nothing more than an elaborate fraud.

“Lance Armstrong did a number of things and he gave himself cancer,” Sonnen said on Pro MMA Radio, as transcribed by MMA Mania. “He cheated, he did drugs, and he gave himself cancer. Well, instead of saying ‘Hey listen, I cheated and gave myself cancer, don’t be like me,’ he actually made himself the victim and then went out and profited something like $15 million from this ‘Hey, poor me, let’s find a cure for cancer’ campaign instead of just coming clean and saying, ‘Look, here’s what I did, I screwed myself up, and I hope people learn from my mistakes.'”

If Chael Shonnen had never failed his drug test, I imagine this exchange would have taken place between the two men when Lance confronted Chael in an effort to get an apology.

“Hello, Lance, look at your ball, now look at my balls, now back to your ball, now back to mine. Sadly, you do not have a complete set of matching testicles, but if you had stopped using PEDs, and switched to hard work, a great diet, and sacrifice, you could have two balls like me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re on the decline of your career, and all your accomplishments are tainted by all the whispers of PEDs. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s a half-filled ball sack, that pumps half the jizz to that thing you love. Look again, the ball sack now contains guilt when it should contain possibilities. Anything is possible when you are a man who does not use PEDs and not a lady. I’m on the verge of upsetting Andersen Silva….”

“The verge is the closest you will ever get to defeating me, Anderson Silva always gets the last laugh.”
